How Beautiful Is Our Time on Earth

Last year I took my kiddos and my mom to the John Day fossil fields in central Oregon. Surrounded by the breathtaking landscape and the remnants of ancient life, I couldn’t help but marvel at the sheer insignificance of my own existence on this planet.

The fossil fields, spanning back millions of years, reminded me that my brief stint of a hundred years on this planet pales in comparison to the eons that came before me. It was a humbling realization, igniting a desire within me to make every moment count. After all, how impactful can we be in our limited time here?

Our world is facing challenges, wrestling with the shadows that lurk beneath the surface of our collective consciousness. It’s a pivotal moment for us to reflect and ask ourselves: What truly matters? When we reach the end of our journey, what will we hold dear?

It won’t be the mundane tasks or the hours spent toiling away at work. Instead, it’ll be the depth of our love, the breadth of our dreams, the richness of our relationships, and the adventures we took that will matter. These are the moments that define our lives, the ones that stir our souls and fill us with an ineffable sense of joy.

So why wait? Why postpone the things that set our hearts on fire? Life is too short to be spent in hesitation. As someone who has embarked on a spiritual journey spanning over two decades, I’ve learned the importance of embracing change and following my heart’s calling.

In 2016, I made the bold decision to retire from my career after the birth of my second child. It was a leap of faith, a departure from the familiar comforts of financial security. But deep down, I knew I was craving something more, something authentic and soul-stirring.

The turning point came in 2018 when my beloved mother-in-law passed away rapidly and unexpectedly from cancer. Her death shook me to the core, forcing me to confront the fleeting nature of life. It was a wake-up call, urging me to reassess my priorities and live with intention.

And so, my family and I made the decision to leave behind our life in Maui and relocate to Oregon, seeking a deeper connection to nature and a renewed sense of purpose. Along the way, I’ve had to renegotiate old patterns, relationships, and beliefs that we keeping me small.

And as I walked that path, more and more things had to fall away until most recently, the thing that had to change was my marriage. It was no longer viable. And I had to take the hard and big step of transitioning out of that relationship. It was a decision fraught with uncertainty and fear, but I knew it was necessary for my growth and well-being. And with each step I took towards my dreams, the universe conspired to support me, sending unexpected blessings and opportunities my way.

I share this journey with you in hopes of  inspiring you to seek out the things you would love for your life. I understand the fear and uncertainty that comes with stepping into the unknown, yet I also know the profound rewards that await those who dare to follow their hearts.

So, my love, I urge you to dream big and live boldly. Your dreams are not insignificant; they are your purpose, your reason for being. Don’t let fear hold you back. Embrace the beauty of your journey and let life love you back.
