The Power of Gratitude

A couple of years ago, one of my dear friends was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy. The other night, I attended a breast cancer awareness event where she was a guest speaker and shared her story. She began her speech by recounting the incredibly hectic morning she had experienced, a morning that hadn’t gone as planned. She found herself frazzled and running around frantically, trying to get her kids to school and daycare…late.

Amidst all the chaos, she spoke of an overwhelming feeling of gratitude. Just last year, she didn’t even know if she would be here to see her two boys grow up. My friends and I listened with tears streaming down our faces, profoundly grateful that our friend was alive and deeply appreciative of the beautiful hecticness of our own lives.

It’s so easy to focus on what’s going wrong, what we don’t have, how we’ve messed up, or how we’ve been wronged. Yet, my love, I want to remind you that there are so many things in your life that are going RIGHT. So many things you DO have, so many things you are doing WELL, and so many people who LOVE you—if only you take a moment to look for them.

There is incredible power in our experience of gratitude. When harvested and cultivated, it becomes the substance of miracles. I encourage you to spend some time reflecting on all the magnificence that makes up your life. Surprise yourself, sweet one, and allow yourself some time to wander down the winding and delightful paths of your wonderfully, incredibly precious life.

Take a moment today to pause and reflect on the blessings that surround you. Embrace the chaos, the imperfections, and the unexpected moments, for they are all part of the beautiful tapestry of your life. Gratitude has the power to transform your perspective, to shift your focus from what’s lacking to what’s abundant, and to fill your heart with a sense of wonder and appreciation.

In the midst of life’s challenges, remember that there is always something to be grateful for. Allow gratitude to be your guiding light, illuminating the path to a more joyful and fulfilling existence.

Trust in the magic of gratitude, and watch as it brings miracles into your everyday life.
